Crazy-quilt subdivisions Without proper subdivision controls, rural land often gets parceled off in crazy waysways that pay no attention to natural features, create impractical, skinny "railroad lots," cut into country roads with driveways, and leave much land inaccessible. These maps show two lots in Shalersville Township, Portage County. The small map below shows the land use pattern prior to 1988.
