Project consultant Our consultant for the Images of the Western Reserve project was Mark Gillem, an architect and planner with extensive project experience in both the public and private sectors. He has developed master plans for nearly $1 billion in capital improvements worldwide, including plans for sites across the United States as well as in Japan, Italy, and several developing countries. In Ohio, he designed the states first neo-traditional development, Wright Cycle Estates, located east of Dayton. In Xenia, he designed the master plan for the reuse of the historic Ohio Veterans Childrens Home. And at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station, he designed the award-winning comprehensive plan for the installation. Several years ago, he worked with residents in Medina County to conduct a Built Environment Rating for that county. Gillem also has extensive experience teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels. He was an Assistant Professor of Architecture and Planning at the U.S. Air Forces graduate school in Dayton, Ohio, and he has taught courses in urban design and professional practice at the University of California, Berkeley. He has published nearly 20 articles and has given numerous public lectures on planning and design issues. He is currently based in Berkeley.
