Small Farm Research &
Education Center

The Small Farm Research & Education Center (SFREC) is a non-profit organization based at Silver Creek Farm in Hiram. SFREC supports educational and research opportunities with hands-on learning to strengthen family farms and rural communities such as Silver Creek and Hiram. Silver Creek Farm is an organic diversified 75-acre farm in Hiram.

The center is committed to reconnecting the local community with small family farms in Northeast Ohio. SFREC offers the following programs and services:

  • Year-round school tours at Silver Creek Farm to allow children and teachers to interact and experience the activity on a working farm.
  • Integrating farm activities into K-12 curriculum
  • Educate about cultural, social, and economic importance of small farms within communities they exist.
  • Practical on-farm experience for interested farmers
  • Farm-based events and learning opportunities that promote and educate local farmers and regional community leaders
  • Provide opportunity for local farmers to interact

Once a week in May and June, SFREC hosts tours with hundreds of preschool and elementary school children. Volunteer opportunities exist at the farm throughout the Summer in the greenhouses and the fields. High-school and summer college internships are available. Call 330-569-7212.
